That james guy is wrong just because it's prom doesn't mean it has to be a long dress that you decide to wear. I'm wearing a short dress because i plan on wearing really high heels. basically the type of dress you should choose should be based on how much you liked it when you try it on. And for James' information short dresses are the style for 2009.
I think it depends on what sort of person you are...If you want to look elegant then go for a long dress. If you like the idea of a long dress, but you'd rather look modern than elegant, choose a dress with a print! Long dresses with prints are very popular at the moment...It gives you a Bo-ho look. Wear a short one that will catch people's eye if you want the attention or wear a long one to feel like a princess(that's what my sister is doing).

It should be long. Short dresses just don't say ';prom'; to me. I loooove long dresses for prom! And anyway, you can wear a short dress anytime... prom is a really special day.
i think long dress is better for prom but that's just me. Cause short dresses you get to wear at other school dances, and sweet sixteens, etc.
